The end of the year

Room 8 has worked incredibly hard this year.  They have been Miss Bolton's guinea pigs:  starting our class blog, using the wiki page, using our new iPad, using Miss Bolton's iPhone, trying different apps, using cameras on lots of devices, trying out different timetable ideas, using different websites (like Mathletics!). The list goes on.
Miss Bolton is very proud of the way everyone in Room 8 has given all the new things a go - no-one said that they didn't want to try anything, Room 8 are definitely risk-takers when it comes to their learning!
To finish off the year, Miss Bolton asked Room 8 to reflect on 2012 and use the netbooks to video themselves talking about what they enjoyed the most in 2012.  Miss Bolton then edited the videos and put them all together to make one movie.

A little bit of rain?

Today (6 December) it rained. And rained. And rained! Miss Bolton took a photo and video of the rain just after lunch today when she was sheltering under the canopy with Mrs Tate. The rain was so loud that Miss Bolton couldn't hear Mrs Tate talking to her!
On the video can you see the water overflowing? The noise in the video is the rain hitting the canopy.

Emotion Poems

In Room 8 we have been learning about similes.  Similes are when we compared two things using the words like or as.

Miss Bolton showed us some blogs where other students had written emotion poems.  Here are the links:

Year 3 class from Australia

Belmont Primary School from Auckland

Here are some of our emotion poems:

                           SHYNESS
                           Harmony

Shyness is like going to a new school for the first time ever.
I see people laughing at me about how I dress!
I hear whispers in others ears about me!
I smell gross school lunches.
It tastes yuck and really fatty.
Shyness feels afraid and nervous!

                          FEAR
                          Ants

            Fear is like being trapped.
            I see shadows lurking,waiting.
I hear creaks and knives clanging.
            I smell blood and fire.
            It tastes rusty and curved.
            Fear feels insane and painful.

           pain
pain feels like getting punch in the face you fall down  and you know that you will
            lose the fight.
It feels painful like falling down and hitting your head on a rock.
I taste my blood dripping  down my nose.
In your head you hear noises saying get up get up. by Aloysius

Happy.
Happy is when you hear giggles like laughs.
It's when you smell delicious chocolate cake with icing on top of it.
Happy is when you see people having fun like playing the game tiggy .
It's when you had a slice of chocolate cake.
Happiness is when you have fun.
By Kevin

The dragon

My favourite part that i like his writing and his one paper that was cool when i do it

learning how to illustrate

Friday 23 November.                  Quinn

This morning in Room 1,  Bruce Potter an illustrator came in to teach us how to illustrate pictures. He even drew a picture of a goblin going as fast as he can in a car with a dragon chasing him.

this is that picture I talked about.^:D

Bruce potter

Bruce potter came to paerata school so we could see what he can dolike what an illutrator could do. So maybe another person would like to be an illustratorwhen they grow up they might want to be one when they are a little bit older. I think bruce potter was born to be an illustrator and maybe an artist. The end by. Waimaria.

The illustrator

This morning in room I Bruce potter came in to talk with us about being an illustrator. The entire school was there. He sang a song about Kaha the kea. He drew a picture of a dragon chasing a goblin.

Ants

Re-planting our Strawflowers

Our new pots for the strawflowers.
On Friday 16 November Room 8 repotted their strawflower plants into bigger pots.  We did this because the pots that the plants were growing in became too small.  Then we replanted the extra strawflower plants into the garden under the big Tōtara tree outside Room 3.

While we were doing the replanting, Tyler used the iPad to video what Room 8 was doing.  She also talked to some of Room 8 to see what they were doing.  Her video is below (Miss Bolton has edited it a little bit.)

Flintstone's Animation #3

Flintstones Animation #2

Here is Harmony and Monomono-Ava's animation.

The Flintstone's Animations

On the twentieth of October the Flintstones reading group did animation.
We could work together or by ourselves.  I was doing Captain Underpants punching a bad guy.
The hard part was drawing.  After you've finished drawing you colour it in.  Then you have to go on the Apple laptop to do iMovie.
First you had to go to new project by doing command N or File, new project.  Then you had to typ in a name.  After that you put the pictures in order.
