Why do we need to be sun safe?
Our new inquiry topic is about why we need to be sun safe. A lot of us knew what to do in order to be sun safe, but not many people knew WHY!
Check out the Inquiry topic tab at the top of the page for more information, websites and videos about being sun safe.
Here is a short song about being sun safe. Comment about what you have learned from the video.

Safe2School Day slideshow
We have started using Google Slideshow in our class. We are learning how to collaborate on the same slideshow.
Miss Bolton asked us to write two sentences about the Safe2School Day we had at Paerata. We had to write an introductory sentence and a sentence saying what our favourite part of the day was and why.
How do you think we did?

Aotearoa
This morning one of Miss Bolton's cousins sent her a link to a song that she thought was awesome. Once Miss Bolton saw it, she knew she had to share it!
We are very lucky to live in a country that is not at war and we have beautiful landscapes to visit.
The song is called Aotearoa, sung by Stan Walker, Ria Hall, Maisy Rika, Troy Kingi.

Inappropriate blog comments
Miss Bolton says:
Over the past week there have been some comments left on our blog that are not appropriate. Luckily I have to check the comments before they are published on the blog.
I am very disappointed by these comments.
In Room 8 we have learned about digital citizenship and how to act online. We have cards to help us write awesome comments.
What do you think the consequences for leaving an inappropriate comment should be?
Leave a comment with your ideas.

Worm Farms
Today our school worm farms got up and running! 4000 worms are now living in our worm farms. If we feed them properly and look after them, they will make us some worm tea - which is fantastic fertiliser for our gardens.
Here are some photos of Whaea Lois blessing the worm farms.

Commenting on blogs
Miss Bolton would like to send out a reminder about blog comments.
It is very important that your comment is about the post you have read/watched. If the post is a photo of the playground, you should not leave a comment about work we did in class!
If your comment is not about the post, Miss Bolton will not publish it.
REMEMBER TO USE THE BLOG COMMENT CARDS! If you follow the cards you will write an awesome comment (they are on the orange table).
**Also, please use punctuation - I know that you can use full-stops and capital letters!! :)

Transport video
Miss Bolton found this clip on Youtube. It is an old clip from 1946, and it is about how transport has changed.
Watch the clip. Has transport changed since the end of this clip? How long does it take to go around the work in an aeroplane today?

Road Safety Week
This week is Road Safety week. Today Room 8 brainstormed all the different ways that we knew to stay safe when we were passengers in cars. We used an online mind-map programme to list our ideas.
If we have missed any ideas, comment and let us know!
(Hint: if you click on the little blue monster on the right-hand side, you can see the mind map in full screen.)
