Masterchef Bakers

Our Inquiry topic for term 1 was all about Bread - how to make bread dough, creating different types of bread, and how to work together in a team.

Room 8 joined with Room 7 to form 8 Masterchef teams.

For each type of bread teams were given points for coming first, second and third (10points, 9 points and 8 points respectively).  Teams were given bonus points by Mrs Snook and Miss Bolton for team work.

Types of bread:

Simple white loaf
Wheat loaf
Savoury bread
Sweet bread 1
Sweet bread 2
Shared lunch (pizza dough, pita, coconut buns, Maori (fried) bread)

Thanks to Mrs Snook for organising the equipment and ingredients.  Thanks to Whaea Heni and Mrs Taumoefolau for coming in to help with the groups baking the Maori bread and coconut buns.

Why do we need to be sun safe?

Our new inquiry topic is about why we need to be sun safe. A lot of us knew what to do in order to be sun safe, but not many people knew WHY! Check out the Inquiry topic tab at the top of the page for more information, websites and videos about being sun safe. Here is a short song about being sun safe. Comment about what you have learned from the video.

Time

Miss Bolton read the legend "How Maui slowed the sun".  We had to try and guess what our new topic was - some people got very close!  Here are some photos of our ideas.

Our new inquiry topic is Time.  We will be learning about the different ways we measure time and we will be doing experiments comparing different measuring units.
Here is a clip of the legend.

Transport video

Miss Bolton found this clip on Youtube.  It is an old clip from 1946, and it is about how transport has changed.

Watch the clip.  Has transport changed since the end of this clip?  How long does it take to go around the work in an aeroplane today?

Our new games!

At the end of Term 2, our profits were added together from our Enterprise unit. We worked to earn money by selling soup and we had our Market Day. Below are a few photos and clips of Room 8 enjoying our new games.

Market Day

Today the junior school had their Market Day. Market Day is the culmination of our topic "Enterprise - working for money". Here are a few photos taken by Room 8 students.

Room 8's fantastic sellers.
