Fonterra Milk in Schools
On Friday we had our first carton of milk thanks to the Milk in Schools programme. It was a huge hit, with everyone in the class trying it! It was nice to have a cool drink for brain break.
We learned how to fold our cartons correctly so that they can be recycled.
Soon we will upload a video of how to fold the milk cartons correctly.

Feta Cheese
On Friday 15 November Miss Bolton brought some feta cheese to school.
The Fraggle Rock reading group had read a story about a boy who had feta cheese in his sandwiches. No one in the group could remember trying feta cheese, so Miss Bolton said she would bring some for everyone to try.
Here are some writing we did about trying the feta cheese.
Robin wrote:
Today we tasted a different type of cheese called feta cheese. It tasted like salty water, but cheese. It felt slimy. It looked nice. The feta cheese was yummy.
Fonua wrote:
Today Room 8 ate feta cheese. The feta cheese looked like a piece of vanilla cake and it felt smooth.
Kaleb wrote:
Today we tried feta cheese to see what it tasted like. The feta cheese looked like a piece of a cake, because it was shaped in a square. It smelled like ordinary cheese, but tasted different. The feta cheese felt like melted cheese. It tasted yuck because it was like salty water.

Swimming lessons
We have been lucky enough to go to swimming lessons at the Rec Centre. The people at Counties Manukau Sport arranged instruction for our class and Room 6. We go every Wednesday and Thursday. There are 6 groups altogether and the groups have 30 minutes in the pool with an instructor.

Face time with Elu
Today Room 8 used Facetime for the first time. Facetime is like Skype.
Elu called us using Facetime. Elu has been very sick, so he's been away from school.
We could see Elu and talk to him. Bosston and Cameron showed him the work they did during reading time. Ofa, Dyce, Manaia, Ana, Zyprus and Susana also talked to Elu and showed him some of our Calf Club art.

Ranfurly Shield Parade
The Counties Steelers team with the Ranfurly Shield. |
Yesterday some of the students from Paerata went to the Counties Steelers ranfurly shield parade. There were lots of people there, and the team spent a lot of time signing autographs. Cameron got his atm signed by the Counties team!
Counties won the Ranfurly Shield from Hawkes Bay - it is the first time Counties has won the shield!

Project Energise lesson - Sugary Drinks
Today Courtney came to Paerata to talk to us about sugary drinks. First of all, Courtney told us that our bodies are made up of 70% water and our brains are 80% water! We learnt that it is important to replace the water that our body loses.
Next Courtney brought out some drinks that lots of us have had before - water, Powerade, Mizone, Coke, e2, V, raro, milk, and Mother.
After that, a few people had a go at putting the drinks in order, from the drink with the least sugar to the drink with the most sugar. We were very close to getting it correct, Courtney put the drinks in the correct order for us. This photo shows the order - water has the least sugar, e2 has the most!
Last of all we had to separate the drinks into everyday drinks, sometimes drinks and occasionally drinks.
It was a very interesting lesson and we all learned a lot!
Leave a comment saying what you learnt from Courtney's lesson.

NZ Maths Challenge
Last week Room 8 took part in the nation wide New Zealand Maths Challenge, run by Mathletics.
After a frustrating start (the website crashed!), we were able to get onto the site and challenge the rest of the country.
Here are a few photos of Room 8 taking part in the challenge.

At the end of Term 2, our profits were added together from our Enterprise unit. We worked to earn money by selling soup and we had our Market Day. Below are a few photos and clips of Room 8 enjoying our new games.
